HAWKS FHC: STAFF ANNOUNCEMENTS
On behalf of the Vancouver Hawks Board I’m delighted to inform you that we have created and filled three new staff positions within the Hawks Club, effective today, November 1. The purpose of these new staff positions is to create better capacity for our club to achieve our strategic aims while improving operational effectiveness and our service to members.
Our Club Manager, Alex Bale, has been promoted to the role of Executive Director. Alex has been with the club for five years. In that time, he has proven his abilities as an administrator, substantially expanded the club’s program offerings, and demonstrated strong leadership both within the club and as the club’s representative in many field hockey settings in the Lower Mainland and BC. The Executive Director role is intended to strengthen the club’s ability to develop and implement strategic direction, as well as the overall running of club activities. You can reach Alex at executivedirector@
We are delighted to welcome Tyler Klenk to the role of Technical Director. Tyler is perhaps best known in our community as an internationally qualified umpire, and has been involved in developing umpiring nationally. The Technical Director role is responsible for the overall design, planning and execution of the three pathways – players, coaches, and umpires. Tyler can be contacted at technicaldirector@
We are also very pleased to announce that Matt Sarmento will be cementing his role in the club by taking on the Head Coach position. Matt has been coaching with the Hawks club in a variety of roles – Women’s Premier Team, junior fall and spring programs, summer camps, academies, schools program – for many years. The Head Coach role is responsible for embodying and instilling the coaching philosophy of the club as a coach, and leading, educating, supporting and organizing the club’s coaching pool. Matt can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org
All three roles are permanent part-time, subject to continuation of the Community Gaming Grant.
I’d also like to take this opportunity to let you know that the Club is looking to expand and strengthen its Board of Directors. At this time, we are particularly looking for Directors with experience and interest in marketing or building the club’s community spirit. We are also very interested in new Directors with experience and interest in governance, human resources, finance, fund-raising and municipal government relations. Please contact me directly if you’d like to learn more: email@example.com.

2021/2022 FHBC Fees
From Field Hockey BC (FHBC), June 25, 2021:
In consideration of the progressive removal of COVID-19 restrictions under BC’s ‘Restart 2.0’ program and with greater freedoms for both adult and youth field hockey participation expected post July 1st, both the FHBC Board of Directors and the FHC Board of Directors have agreed to offer an early bird incentive for those participants considering a return to field hockey activity ahead of the new season and for new participants to the sport of field hockey in BC. Any new registrations purchased on and after July 1st, 2021, are valid for the full 2021-22 season.
Vancouver Hawks will now be required to register and pay fees directly with FHBC rather than within the Hawks registration system. This change will simplify the administration of fees for our club and help reduce errors, ensuring each member has a valid FHBC #. The FHBC # is important as it provides your insurance coverage for any sanctioned field hockey activity in BC.
For this year, FHBC fees are valid from July 1, 2021 to August 31, 2022, and they will be due before you begin any Hawks programs. They are valid for any FHBC-member program including at other clubs and FHBC/FHC programs. Proof of FHBC registration will be required in the form of an uploaded copy of the receipt in order to register for all Hawks programs.
FHBC registration is available here (start the process by searching for your existing #, which stays with you each year):
If you have any questions about these fees, or this process, please email firstname.lastname@example.org
