Our very own John McBryde was the winner of a President’s Award from FHBC at the Sport BC Athlete of the Year Awards!  FHBC honoured John for his lifetime of contributions to hockey, but especially for all he’s done for FHBC over the years.  His photo was especially memorable as he wore his Greyhawks jersey!

A few words from the man himself:

“My name is John McBryde. I volunteer with the Vancouver Hawks Field Hockey Club which celebrated its 125th Anniversary in 2020. I wish to thank those who submitted and endorsed my nomination for this prestigious award, which I am honoured to accept on behalf of the myriad of volunteers who devote their time and energy with great dedication for the world-wide amateur sport of Field Hockey.

I volunteer because I have enjoyed 75 years of participation in the game and gained many benefits from my involvement in amateur sport in general, and Hockey in particular. I derive great satisfaction in encouraging and assisting others to share this experience. Congratulations to all who have been nominated for and selected to receive their awards. Many thanks to Sport BC and all those involved in the President’s Award program for your efforts to promote sport in British Columbia. It is a great shame that the Covid-19 Pandemic has deprived us all of the opportunity to celebrate the 2020 Sport BC President’s Award Dinner and Presentations last March 2020 in the traditional manner.

It was rewarding to see Scott Tupper receive his Award as Male Player of the Year. He was most eloquent in his acceptance speech. Special congratulations to Scott, who grew up as a Vancouver Hawk in his formative years, which included a tour to Australia with a Vancouver Hawks Junior Team in 2001, setting him on the path to international fame.”
