Junior Winter Academy

The Hawks Winter Academy runs across nice sessions between January 17 and March 14, 2025.

It is a weekly, intensive program for U8-U18 boys and girls.

It is aimed at developing progressive, fundamental, and technical skills for players (including goalies).

All coaching is provided by members of the Men's National Team (MNT) and Women's National Team (WNT) athletes.

This year, the Hawks Winter Academy will be divided into two streams

Elementary

High School

The elementary stream is open to all players in age groups U8-U12.

It will focus on fun-based training programs for players interested in improving technical skills and playing hockey year-round.

Each week will have a specific technical focus that is built on throughout subsequent sessions.

Individual player feedback and assessment will be provided on-field by coaches, and sessions will follow the basic principles of Field Hockey BC’s Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) framework.

A combination of drills and mini-games will feature each week, with a focus on touching the ball with the stick and movement on and off the ball.

Players will also learn about teamwork through passing and positional play.

The high school stream is open to all players in age groups U13-U18.

It is designed as an addition to regular Hawks programming and geared towards those interested in developing or complementing elite and high-performance programs.

It will consist of fast-paced training sessions under the supervision of experienced coaches.

Sessions will generally follow the Field Hockey BC (Long Term Athlete Development) framework.

Each week will have a specific technical focus that is built on in subsequent sessions.

Individual athlete feedback and assessment will be provided on-field by coaches.

It will operate on a tiered program, with three training groups, so that drills are at an appropriate level to develop the athletes and maximize learning.

Coaches will be assessing players during the first two weeks to determine training groups, and groups will be assigned each week based on skill level and abilities.

PLEASE NOTE: Commitment to the full program is requested.

FHBC Fees

Vancouver Hawks members will now be required to register and pay fees directly with FHBC rather than within the Hawks registration system. The FHBC # is important as it provides insurance coverage for any sanctioned field hockey activity in BC.

FHBC fees are valid from September 1 to August 31 of each year and are required before you begin any Hawks programs. Proof of FHBC registration will be required in the form of an uploaded copy of the receipt in order to register for all Hawks programs.
(did you play in the Hawks Junior Fall program? If so, you already have a valid FHBC #)

FHBC registration is available here (start the process by searching for your existing #, which stays with you each year):
