After the Winter break Hawks 2 were pleased to welcome two new additions to their team, Aly Billington from England and Nanda vd Meer from Holland. However, we are still looking to recruit an Irish player who will hopefully bring us more luck than we had this weekend. It was a disappointing weekend, playing 2 games, which both ended in a 1-0 loss. Saturday's win to SFU was awarded after a shot from outside of the circle was mistakenly awarded as an SFU goal. Unfortunately, the ball which was intentionally left to go into the net by goalie and defenders alike, was called back by the referee as a goal, even though the opposing team themselves were setting up for a sixteen yard hit after the play! It seemed like we were unable to shake off the mistaken call for the rest of the game, letting a few unlucky calls dampen our spirits. Many a bouncy ball seemed to find its way over our sticks on the lovely Burnaby turf that we all so dearly love. Sunday's game was equally unlucky with 2 goals for Hawks being called back, as they had been whistled as short corners just seconds prior to the sound of the ball on the backboard, no such luck for an advantage call. Furthermore, Sunday's game saw two balls off the goalposts and one beautiful short corner hit which was deflected just an inch too wide.
Next game our team has equipped ourselves with four leaf clovers and garlic string necklaces ... so watch out Jokers because our luck can only get better from here!
