Opening Day and games in Support of Right To Play

April 14 2010

April 11th at Hamber Field from 10:30-1:30 was a teeming mass of 7-13 year old players, new and experienced. All players had an opportunity to learn new skills, shoot on a goalie and play a massive game of "Capture the Flag". Over 100 junior players came to Hamber Field to learn about Field Hockey.

Thanks to volunteer coaches Andrew Schouten, Phillippa Kedgley, Maddie Plottel, Mike Foxcroft and Stephanie Tang.

Special thanks to the U12 Boys Blue Hawks team who sold lemonade and donated all proceeds to "Right To Play.

Following the Junior Opening Day Festivities two senior games were held. All players donated money in support of "Right to Play". A spirited game between the "Canadians" (born in Canada Hawks members) and "International" (born elsewhere but playing for the Hawks Club) was played. The Canadians captained by Andrew Schouten were victorious over the International side captained by Matt Wood. Thanks to Amanda Bush for organzing the Women's side.

A total of just over $1,500.00 was raised. Thank you all!

Right To Play is a charitable organization that supports programs and gives sport equipment and provides coaching to developing countries.
