Remembering Wendy

April 07 2009

Wendy Ladner-Beaudry will be greatly missed. She had a gift for making people feel comfortable, bringing out the best in everyone and getting things to happen. Among all her other wonderful attributes Wendy was a field hockey player and member of the Hawks Club. She will be greatly missed by anyone who was lucky enough to meet her, but especially by our Hawks 2 team. She started playing field hockey with what was called the Doves (now called the Hawks Women's Premier team) over 25 years ago. Although she played other sports at an elite level, she was especially fond of team sports. She knew that in teams, as in life, you have to get along to reach a common goal. She often used examples of what she had learned from team work on the field to get ideas across to those who were not athletes.

On the Hawks 2 team she was a wonderful mentor to the younger players. She had the great ability of bringing out the best in her team mates and inspiring them by her actions and encouraging words. The team voted her "Most Inspirational Player" for the 2008/2009 season.

There will be a memorial gathering that will be held at the UBC Life Sciences Centre, 2350 Health Sciences Mall, near the hospital at Agronomy Rd., at 2-4 pm, Saturday April 11th.

The world is a worse place without her in it. We miss you Wendy.
